Since you do not know, I will take it easy on you. First off, why would you need to run a 16v system? Just because your amp is 16v stable? Are you a competitor looking to enter the 16v brackets? Or are you just trying to get a little more deebees to show off to your friends? Maybe better hair tricks?first off, i know very little about upgrading a car's electrical system, so any help is appreciated.
i mainly want to be running my amp at 16v, what would i have to do to achieve this?
Anyways, it is much more difficult that you can imagine to upgrade to a 16v charging system. Your vehicle's electronics (computer, ignition, lights, sensors, etc..) all run at 14.4v with your stock alt. That is what is called a 12v system, even though it charges at 14.4v.
Now in a 16v SYSTEM the charge rate is usually 18.8v to 19.2v. Obviously your car's electronics will not be happy at that charge rate. Chances are neither will your amps. What you have to know is:
a) My amps are able to run in a 16v SYSTEM (ie 18.8v ~ 19.2v)
b) My amps are able to run up to 16 volts.
If it is A, then add a second alt. It will be a 16v type. Leave the 12v stock alt in place.
If it is B, then that is not really going to give you much benefit at all. Much less that you probably think. If you are not a competitor, you will not need to worry about this expensive upgrade.
I hope that deterred you from jumping off the 16v cliff. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif
