How to get more lowws from my Rl-p

I would play a 30hz tone and play with your subsonic filter and see if you can gain any output. I would never trust what the dial says. Also, I believe that amp has an adjustable bass boost which might be giving you a ton of gain in the 40s making 30hz seem lower. Try cutting the bass boost all the way and playing with the subsonic. Try those things before doing anything big like building a new enclosure or buying a new sub.
My bass boost is kept at 0 or 1. I played with it a couple times and it only seemed to have an effect when the volume was turned down. As soon as I get my car back tonight, I'll mess with that sub-sonic filter on the amp and let you know.

One thing, when I first hooked my system up, the bass was real boomy like the sub was barking at ya (in a bad way). I've adjusted for this with the EQ on my P880prs and found that it is the 50Hz-band that needs to be turned way down below the other frequency bands for it to sound the best. I don't know why that is. It made me think that my box was possibly tuned much higher than I thought, but the bass hits real hard down into the 30s. And then it drops down to nothing.

try sealing it.

seal your port completely and turn ssf off. = sealed = lows. + bigger amp maybe? low lows reqire power and lots of it.
Sorry, missed your post earlier. That sounds like a good idea. I have thought about trying a sealed box, but I thought I'd have a major loss in output.

But if sealed can really hit those low lows and, with a bigger amp, still wiggle my dashboard and vibrate the seats, maybe I should try going that route.

Hmmm...maybe more watts also.....but 28hz should destroy that Civic...i had my Type R 15 in my civic in a 29hz and it was painful on some songs....even at its current tunin of 32hz its nuts on the low note.

But ill never do another 15 in my Civic ever....god the trunk openin is the most ridiculous thing i ever seen.....if it was bigger i wouldnt care but i cant get nothin through it...so i feel ur pain....good luck with it

Try and play Lil John - Throw It Up and see out of the 3 notes which one is loudest

For me at 32hz tunin now the middle one is loudest.....but when i had it tuned to 29hz the low one was nuts

Yeah, the trunk opening sucks. Literally, if my box was like 1 inch longer on any side it wouldn't fit in my trunk. It is ridiculous.

Oh yeah and Throw It Up, it is hard for me to drive when I'm playing that song.

I'll check tonight and see which note hits the hardest, but I think it probably is the lowest one.

I may sound like I'm being picky, but the main reason I wanted to throw a ported 15" in my Civic is not really for it to just be loud, but to have really deep gut-wrenching bass. But, like on Rick Ross and Akon "Cross that Line", those hits are at like 28Hz. It doesn't get any louder past, say 25 on the volume knob, but higher notes get much louder up to like 36 or higher on the volume. I need for my 15 to be able to pound on them low lows too. Maybe I just need a bigger amp to achieve this?

Now I really don't know what to do.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif

yep bigger amp.acurrate low lows reqire big power

Okay, because it takes so much more force to move the driver that much on those lows? The excursion is definitely there on those notes, but it's like all you hear is the sound of flapping air over top of bass that's trying to do something.

I feel like we're gettin somewhere now.

I agree, if i were you, i'd try a sealed box and throw in a couple lbs of polyfill. Polyfill really helped me. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

try sealing it.
will sealed have better lows (25-30Hz) than his box tuned at 28Hz? i was thinking of going ported, but not if its gonna lose output in that small frequency range. right now 30 hz kills my car //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

anyways to the OP, i'd try more power like others suggested too, maybe a good 1000 watts.

more power...my rl-p 12 is tuned to 28hz recieving 1000 watts and the low lows kick ***
Sweet I can't wait. Well, I think I'm definitely gonna upgrade my amp and hopefully I'll be poundin them low lows like they're supposed to be.

I might even try out a sealed box just to try it, but I'm now thinking the bigger amp does it.

Thanks to everyone that tried to help me out. Lots of great ideas. Much appreciated.

If your looking for sheer LFE a sealed box is the way to go. It's just the nature of the box designs, sealed boxes will play lower. In comparison to a low tuned ported box, it won't play as loud at the lower frequencies both boxes are playing, but it will play louder below the tuning of the ported box.
