Well it happened. Don’t know how but it finally happened. One of my 06 L7’s is bit the dust. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif Its still playable at low to an extent but when you want to get loud it just says rattle, rattle, rattle.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Luckily I still have a warranty on it so all I got to do is pay the shipping. $50 -$75. But wont be able to do any thing about it till next year. Good bye 12 L7 you will be missed:crying:

How much power and what size box did you have it in??

Been giving my 15" L7 hell for over a year... Have snapped all 4 tinsel leads and had to solder them back togethor..Still plays like a champ and havent had a solder break in 2 1/2 months! At times I even send it a clipped signal just for the hell of it..But once I start smelling that voice coil, I turn it back down..

My guess is you have the older models, because the new ones are woven into the spider.

Why? Speakers dont blow on their own. It was user error!!
I know subs don't fry by themselves but L7's older models had a reputation of burning easily and I thought the newer models took a lot more punishment //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

They take way more punishment. My guess is they were clipped pretty bad for a while. As for the older ones I never had any problems with them.

Did you have them in the wrong enclosure or something ?Now you are making me think twice about buying two 15" L7's //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif
Anyone can blow any sub anytime...

It didn't fry. He said it rattles which means there is something wrong with the suspension, not the voice coil.

Pretty sure it was my fault since I put in a second battery just a few days ago. I didn’t recheck the gains so Im guessin that was the initial cause. On the other hand the other sub is working fine and both at on a monoblock amp. Hmmmmm

coil burn is user error, not driver error.
