How to clean my CD/MP3 player?

Ive got an alpine 9815 that is a few years old now and Im wondering if it should be "cleaned" inside? It doesnt skip or anything and never has, but do these things need to be cleaned just as a maintenance thing? I always leave discs in there (which it says not to) so Im not sure. Is there a safe way to clean it myself with some product out there? Would doing anything like this make an improvement?

prolly to clean the laser lens, go buy one of those cd player cleaners. Its like a cd with little fibers on it. You just put it in and listein to the instructions.

Yeah i actually have one of those, just not sure if its safe on this unit?

i use one on mine. doesn't seem to harm it. i've used it on all the head units i've had.
