How much is too much?

It looks like I'm gonna get an HD3 15", and I want to put up some nasty numbers with it... I want to make a giant port on that sucker.... I usually use 15 sq. in. of port per cubic foot, but how much is too much? Will an oversized port adversely affect my SPL?

I man, I could make a box that has 128 sq. in. of port for 4.5 cubes. Or I could stick with the formula and give it 70 or so...

The gains would get too high and the sub would tear itself apart....as for what amount that takes to do that...I dunno. The better your subs suspension, they more it maybe able to handle the higher gains from such a large port.

Go about 20 sq inches per cu. ft and tune the box slightly higher maybe 50hz...That should be a good starting point....

I'm tuning to 40 since my van peaks at 42

I have 46.5 sq inches of port for my box which is 2.5cubes. Although I can't tell you how it sounds yet because I haven't bought the Fi Q. Hopefully I'll be ordering it soon though.
