How much does are generation take responsibility for ourselves?

Its societal evolution. The generation that fallowed before them thought they were crazy for needing cars, TV's, and radios when their horse and carriage worked fine their whole life. Sure values are different now but so isn't the nations modes for sculpting values. People are learning from TV, politics, and video games more than their parents. We are not the first generation affected by that, ever remember of hearing about pro smoking ads on TV that took the nation by storm?

As a nation we evolve we have since we 1492 and will continue through the future.

I have to take a shlt so I'm done, for now

Granted I'm 28, but sometimes I think our generation is too spoiled and takes too much for granted on everything we do.
Many of my friends always make excuses for what they do, want to blame the world for our problems, and take no accoutabilty for our actions.

They claim that the WW2 age people are the 'Real Generation' of Americans, and I'm thinking they're right.

What do you think? Are we all narcissist?
our generation is full of punks, low lifes, and freeloaders. If we can lie, cheat, steal our way to success, we do it...

It is very sad

i know what you mean. From what i've seen kids seem to a sense of entitlement that they have not worked or done anything for that matter to deserve it. it frustrates me to no end the attitude that younger people seem to have these days.

Its instant gratification. Kids are used to getting instant gratification people used to have to work for what we got. Does anyone remember having to go to the library if you wanted information on a certain topic? Does anyone remember waiting till you got to a phone to call someone. Now kids all have cell phones, even in grade school.

What drives me nuts is the sense of community these days, or should I say the lack there of. I can remember waking up on a saturday morning and the neighbor could possibly be in my living room having coffee with my mom. On friday nights any one deck on the block could have 3-4 families on it having a beer party or playing cards. Now it seems as if everyone stays home. Every little town around here used to have whole hog barbecues, fish fries, or street dances every weekend and even that is gone. I miss the old days where everyone cared about one another and would actually help one another.

K im done crying about it now.

Doesn't consumerism and materialism help the economy. I for one feel it does. I like to posses certain things, therefore I work hard to get them. If I didn't care about myself, I wouldn't have put myself through college so that I may find a better job, so that I can have more things. I don't see what the big problem is.

I don't understand why my efforts should be used to subsidize those who do not take full advantage of opportunities.

I feel entitled to clean water and clean air.

Because we have to maintain some minimum standard of living in the most prosperous nation in the history of the world.

No one should die from starvation, curable/preventable illness, freeze to death, or be homeless in a nation as rich as the US.
