How much deadener have you used?

Anyway...

I've done much research on different sound deadeners and just need to make a final decision on how much to buy.

My application is not to stop rattles or vibrations in my '96 VW Golf GTI VR6 (although that will be a indirect result), but to make the car's interior as quiet as possible from outside noises.

I understand that the product's thickness will be a determinating factor in number of layers I will need. But I would like to know how much total deadener people have used and how much it helped with exterior noise suppression. It would be helpful if you listed your product of choice and areas of coverage when you post your total amount. Thanks for all your answers!

I have used two boxes of dynamat extreme bulk packs. At 36 sq. ft per pack, I've used 72 sq. ft and I've just ordered 3 gallons of spectrum v3 from http://www.secondskinaudio.com. At 40 sq. ft per gallon, that's another 120 sq ft. I installed the two bulk packs in the trunk and I could almost swear to you that the bass doubled after the first pack and then doubled again after the second pack. With the seats down, I can barely hear any road noise from the trunk compared to the original howling when I first got it. The spectrum v3 is going to go on my doors, the floor, the roof, and some more in the trunk so I'll let you know how it goes when I install it during spring break.

160 sq.feet of damp pro and 2 gallons of spectrum*all from secondskin*i still got some road noise but not even close to how loud it was before mainly tire howl*but this spring im gonna do the roof but i can hear/tell a very big difference..like before you could say knock on one of the quater panels it sounded pretty hallow now its a nice solid thud sound and the sound quality inside the vehical ide say X100 better..imho it was one of the best investments ive made in my vehical so far

I used about 40 ft^2 of Hushmat between my two front doors on my standard cab truck. This helped road something of a noticeable amount, and more importantly killed a lot of rattles in the doors when I would hit a bump. I have then put about 30 ft^2 of eDead V1 (about half the thickness of Hushmat) on my rear wall and b-pillars. This has not done much to supress any extra road noise, but does cut down on vibrations nicely. Planning to throw another 10 ft^2 or so of V1 under the headliner on the roof.

I have about 80 feet of fatmat in my scion xb. I can say it has made a good difference. I have two layers on my doors and one layer in the rear hatch area covering up to the rear seats and as much of the rear wheels wells as I could get. I still need to do the hatch itself and finish the floor and roof.
