How much Amp is Really Needed?

I am looking at the Sundown E Series 8" Subwoofer Dual Voice Coil 2 Ohm in series and they are rated at 200 Watts RMS.

I am looking at SQ and using this just to fill in the lower freqs below the Component set that I am considering.

I have not purchased anything yet.

I am really curious if a 180W-250 RMS at 4 Ohms bridged amplifier is going to be enough for this speaker? Or does it really need more?

The component set I am looking at is the JL C2-650 as I found them for $145 vs the Hertz ESK 165 for $279 and I can not tell any sound difference.

This is going into a 69 Convertible Firebird and the sub will most likely be placed in the floor board between the driver seat and the back seat.

I do not care about pounding bass that will move the car down the road. I mostly listen to Heavy Metal, Rock, Jazz and Blues. Hip Hop is the closest thing to Rap I might listen to.

Thanks

Ray

one thing to remember is that the E8 is a dual coil sub. so if you get an amp that is 4 ohm stable you will need to get a dual 2 ohm sub and run the voice coils in series to get a final 4 ohm load.

on a side note i actually have an E8 in a center consoul box in my stardard cab toyota. it did ok sealed however if you want the low end out of it you will want to go with a ported box. it is amazing how low it gets with such low power and little cone area.

I almost got one of these about 10 years ago. Guy was asking too high though. Sweet car, turned some heads for sure.

If it's rated 200W that means it can take that power all day every day without failure. I'm sure you can run more to it, but you'll run into diminishing marginal returns

and risk damaging it eventually if you're not careful.

The high end JL components I've heard sound pretty nice. Not sure what model that is you're looking at, I haven't really seen any in a while. I must say Alpine Type R components are great performers for the money, well worth auditioning if anyplace local to you has them.

I have a JL 250 Watt Amp that I got for a little over $130 at a shop.

But if you go on amazon they have the same amp for $118.00 just search JL Amps and its the JX250/1 monoblock amp. it should be more than enough to power that sub your looking at, and you can never go wrong with Sundown my friend.
