this is a sound quality question:

i set the gain on my MTX 1501d to give out 800 watts at 4ohms with a 50 hz 0db sine wave and the volume at 28/35. this is WAY too high of a gain to have the idMAX compared to how loud my infinity perfect components are at that volume.. the components get drowned out with these certain 'wattage figures'.. they are powered by a hifonics nx600 (150x2). what im wondering is is there a certain wattage my subs should be getting when theres 150 watts going to my components.. or a close ballpark figure? such as a ratio (for example: 'twice as much watts should be going to the subs than is going to the components')?

you cant/ aren't supposed to set the gain to give out a certain amount of watts... it's used to match the voltage of your HU...
Actually, you very well can use the gain to limit the power output of your amplifier. You shouldn't use it to try to increase output beyond what the amp is capable of providing (i.e. cranking the gain all the way up when it isn't needed), but it is 100% fine to use the gain to limit the output of the amplifier. People do it all the time.

Oh, and I've got ~800w on my sub, ~50w on my comps (currently).
