how many kbps sounds like a reg cd

MP3s come in many different compression sizes. 64KBPS to 384KBPS I think. Also 196KBPS isn't even close to CD quality. Most albums take up the entire CD which is 700MB. An entire album ripped in MP3 format, even at 196KBPS only takes about 100MB of space. Big difference.

Ding, Ding, Ding! We haaaave a winner! Exactly right excepting I do not know of a burning/ripping program that will do 384kbs....highest I know of is 320kbs which is what I rip all of mine to.

I used to do 128kbs and could generally fit 10 or 12 entire albums on one blank CD-R.

At 320kbs I can fit around 5 whole albums. They sound worlds better than 128kbs but they still are not CD quality. Personally, though, I'll forego a bit of aural resolution for sake of space-saving //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

read that guide if you want really good sounding mp3's.

If your using really good hifi stereo equipment, definently rip with loseless format,

but, most people dont need that, so I would go variable bitrate like the guide above mentions. I rip all my cd's with it (LAME encoding) and they sound just as good as regular cds. 128 bit mp3's sound like *** to me, I would avoid that.

If you rip all your cd's on full quality, or not compressed with a loseless format, your going to fill alot of space, so be warned.

i rip all mine in 192kbps...i cant tell the difference.

You're not an SQ guy.

There is a huge difference. If you want the best possible compression while still saving space and retaining aural qualities.. I use the Apple Lossless encoder built into iTunes.

It'll automatically go through the WHOLE song and determine exactly what frequencies are not being used in that particular song. Each song will have a different bit rate at the end, but each will sound a helluva lot better than a standard MP3.
