how many cubes and what fz. for tc-3k 12"

i remember the site saying something like 1.5 at 28 for ported before they changed up the site. so my question is, is it ok to change up frequency and volume to your specific likeing? how much does the volume come in to play? what would it do to change it from 1.5 to say 2.5?..and finaly what do you recomend for volume and frequency with a tc-3000? port volume? it will be in the trunk of a 96 acura tl..looking for some suggestions and info before i start my first box, thanks
