How low can i go?

I've been reading through these forums and have noticed that alot of people who like really low deep bass (like me) say that they have their subs tuned to around 25-30hz. How are they getting this low? I have a kenwood amp and there is a knob next to the bass boost for tuning the hz but it only goes down to 40hz. My question is how are they tuning so low? Does it just depend on what amp they have?

The tuning frequency of the box is what they are talking about, not the amp. What you see on your amp is the low pass filter.

They are talking about the tuning freqency for the ports on their enclosures....

Ahh ok i got ya so then u really cant tune the hz on a sealed box? Sorry guess im still a noob :-(

Keep in mind that there is no actual tuning "number" in sealed just a qts setting that will give you different curves.

I Have a custom sealed box for 2 12's in an 02 camaro but the subs are separated into their own "little" box. Can u guys give me an idea on how the sound might change if i went in and knocked out the middle piece that separates the subs and basically turned it into 1 bigger box?

It most likely woudn't change noticably. I would leave that divider there for support, but also so that if one of your subs blows you won't necessarily lose the other. If it was custom made for your subs then it should already be optimized.

Well the box wasnt necessarily custom made for the subs as much as it was for my car. In a camaro there is relatively no trunk so the box has to fit down into the rear well. Anyway the only reason i was asking was beacuse sometimes when im listening to rock i feel that on the really low notes the subs arent getting and hitting down that low. They hit extrememly hard on hip hip, rap, and r&b and they sound great but i just feel like sometimes they arent getting low where they should be when i listen to rock. Maybe its my imagination im not sure.

Well rock and roll is a different type of music. So it has alot to do with the recording of the cd. I listen to alot of rock and love the pucnch bass of the kick drums. What kind of subs do you have?

Tuning of a ported box is determined by the length and cross-sectional area of the port in relation to the enclosure volume.
