How loud can 12s actually get?

I have a sub I'm trying to build and can't decide if I want to do a 12, 15, or 18. Its really confusing me. The 18 would be sub up/port back, the 15 would be sub/port back, and the 12 would be sealed to the front.

is this on a termlab?
You never know what something is going to hit. I have 2 bottom of the line powerbass 12's single voice coils(45$ apiece). Kenwood amp 850 rated watts, 2 ohm stable in a prefab in the trunk forward firing and hit 142.1 term-lab at usaci. My set up was hitting about 4 or 5 db's less than normal because I pulled it all out and stuck it back in and didn't have it set up right.

Light efficiant subs can hit harder than under powered heavey subs alot of time.

The 12" sealed isn't going to do mid 140's in a standard trunk car. 'Might want to cross that one off your list. The ported 15" option gets my vote for your mid 140's quest.

True indeed. The old kicker compvr svc subs were a lot less beefy than their CVR counterparts these days, but a pair of those subs in the right box was easily as loud as a pair of the new CVR's, and off of less power. You're gonna need a good ported box to get that kind of volume from a single 12" though.

I agree!

I did do a 143.5 with 1 DD9512f firing back in a VW Passat. Not bad for a 4 door and only 2.5k watts. The box was tunned to 38hz. I like single sub set-ups just for the fact of suprising people.

The T3 TSS is a good choice because it is very efficient. I can do high 147s with one 12, 150.4 with 2, and 153s with 4.

all at a range of 39-42 hz.

This is in an HHR though and not a trunk car.

A trunk car will be much more difficult to achieve those numbers.

you have to be kidding.

So its possible. Were any of these done with low tuned boxes? I want the ability to get low and still be loud. I don't really need to do mid 140s, just be loud on the lows.
then get 1 12, 2 12's or 1 15 in ported boxes and never tune above 32Hz. ty to get the boxes made slightly bigger than recommened

or he can get one of those HDC3s and put it in a ported box tuned to about 38-40hz, which is what is recommended for them, and praise about the sq of it.
