How Long Do HU's last on average?

I probably change HU's at least once per year but i have seen them last years and seen some only last months.

and BTW its only as exspensive of a hobby as you make it, but carefull car audio is like crack once you start its hard to stop!

i've had mine for a year and a half, might upgrade in a couple months though

they usually last atleast a couple years of you get a good one

All depends on how they are cared for.

If you are constantly installing, un-installing, it - etc, then the wear will be greater.

Keep it clean, make sure it's mounted securely and that all connections are tight and covered, and they can last quite a while.

My current HU (Sony CDX-M630) in my T-Bird is pushing 2.5 years without issue and still does everything I need it to.

I have an Alpine(Can't recall model # presently) going on 4 years old in my Cougar Show Car. -Also without issue, however, it will be upgraded this year as it no longer can provide everything that I need.

Also have a Sony EXCD-21 (Circa 1996- IIRC ) that is still working flawlessly, and has been without issue the entire time.

I tend to border well beyond that of obsessive-compulsive in maintaining things, however, it just goes to show you that the life expectancy of a product largely depends upon its owner.

Car Audio/Performance becomes addicting. Really addicting.

Expense wise. Yeah........ //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I've got a 5 year old Alpine that is in perfect condition...it's now my back-up radio //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Up until last year, I was running my sony XR-u700 mobil ES since 93 or so. It worked flawlessly, till last year when the detachable face connection wasn't making good connection to the unit.

My c90 looks like it'll last me at least another 10 years.

Like someone said before, if you take good care of it, keep it clean, firmly support, and with nice connections it can last years.

My pioneer is almost 5 years old and still working like a champ.

i've had decks last up to 3yrs in my street vehicles before i just upgraded for a change...but in offroad/dusty conditions, you are lucky to go 1yr before changing decks. that's my experience in new mexico anyhow...

alpine - 4 years and still going like brand new. Although I just ordered a new alpine 9833 and Im gonna sell this one I have now. I bet I can still get over 100 bucks for it. Saw used ones just like mine go for any where from 120-180.

Hey, I was wondering if there is a general basis for how long an HU lasts on average. I just want to know how expensive this hobby might become...(also look at my previous thread if you have the time).

This hobby is very expensive....lol. Flat out, from any perspective, this is expensive.

Unless you buy sony!

It was a system from 2 vehicles ago. The enclosure was rock solid. Had a P9 combo to deal with whatever equalization was going to be required.
