How hard is it to build your own hi output alternator?

Has anyone tried to do this cause i dont wanna pay 650 bucks for a 160 amp alternator. maybe i can buy better parts or the same for cheaper. and build it myself anyone done this before?

what i am really wanting is a bigger alternator but know one seems to have any. Or maybe buying a bigger one thats not for my car but with some minor modification to make it work 160-170amps is just not enough for my application. but i guess i will just deal with it unless i can build my own so i can save money.

Call up some generator/alternator rebuilders around your area and ask them to rebuild one for you with higher output. Worth a try.
