How do you test an old school.....

1) Grab keys to your own vehicle.

2) Drive to Family Dollar/ some Dollar store

3) Find a CD to Cassette adapter (yes the thing that lets you listen to an i-pod or anything with a 3.5mm headphone jack in a cassette player.)

4)Purchase

5) Plugin a portable CD-player, Mp3, etc

6) Put Cassette Adapter into player, click play on cassette player and mp3/cd

Congratulations, you just got an answer!!

My Mobile ES CD player (CDX something or other) was sent off 3 times back in the day for the "no eject" issue. Driving back from Florida listening to the same CD or the craptastic radio stations in Mississippi and Alabama was NOT fun. I left it in my 1996 Thunderbird when I sold it in 1999 along with a POS Rockford Fosgate 4.6x.

How the hell does that test the deck? if the belts are worn and someone actually uses it , it will drag or eat the tape. All the adapter does is tell if the head still works. and FYI a head rarely goes bad but belts go bad all the time.
