How do you guys feel about this?

If you are your only transportation, then I think it should be the school's responsibility. Paying for a spot doens't make it their responsibility at all just like paying to park anywhere doesn't mean your car is insured through them.
I guess they could argue that you could not go to the school if you cannot get there any other way than by yourself. If you plan on trying to legally fight them, you will lose as you don't have anywhere to stand.

How? You chose to buy the spot and you choose to take a risk parking there. It's the same anywhere.
Because sometimes you are forced to park at a school lot, therefore they should. Its on their property. In my highschool the nearest parking spot besides the school lot was about a 20 - 25 min walk. In no way in hell you are going to do that. Dont try to defend it by the want and needs either. You are forced to go to highschool, so they might as well accomodate for their students through education and security while on campus. Your already paying the school through taxes. If you pay in addition for a parking spot on their property then they should be held responsible.

Its also like when some kid falls on your property, you can get sued for it.

Just like you hold a friend's subwoofers in your garage and then your garage gets robbed... you compensate for the stolen subwoofers to your friend.

yea i believe its the skools fault.. we had the same thing happen to 1 of my boys at skool..smashed his windshield, fender, and drivers side window, they stole his tach, subs, amp, and some oakleys....and the school didnt catch on while they was out there removing everything???? wtf

They are NOT paid by taxes. It's a private school.

I don't think its really their responsibility if it gets stolen, don't get me wrong. But I believe that it IS their responsibility to make sure that their students and their property that is located on their grounds is safe. (security guards / cameras..)

i was speaking about my case... in my 1st post in my edit i was talking about a friends car being stolen.

But i agree with you mate //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

did they make you sign a waiver that says "if someone messes with your shit, it ain't our fault"?
if they did, you're screwed. if they didn't, it's their property, their responsibility.
No. We walk in, give them a $20 down payment, and they give us a sticker to put on our windshield. They mark us off on the sheet of which spot we got, and then they charge an extra $40 on top of the normal tuition for the spot monthly. (We pay tuition monthly also).

Just because you pay them for the spot, does not make them responsible. Only if they said/ wrote, your $40 covers parking and security. All paying for that spot does for you, is make sure no one else can park there.

Now, because it is a private school, the parents/ board members will be able to get certain things put into place. For example; security staff, cameras and etc..

I know this would probably get turned down in court, and they would say "You made the choice to park there. We're not forcing you to go here either, so if you do choose to go here, just take public transportation.

But realisitically, how many parents are going to force their child to take a bus to school, especially when its not only in the ghetto, but about 15 miles in two different directions from where about 90% of the people live.

Ok.................. It is not their legal responsibility but it is their moral responsibility to provide their students with a safe parking place. Its also good business. Do you think the students that had their stuff jacked with are going to re enroll there next year? Probably not. If the school wants to keep a reputation as being a good private school to attend and keep their attendance (aka $) they should fence in the parking lot and post a security gaurd at a gated entrance. Im willing to bet it would pay off in the long run even if the initial cost seems steep.

You have a choice once you turn 16 whether you want to go to highschool or not. You also have the choice to go to that private school or not. If you don't want to drive to school, there IS a way to school. There may not be a mode of transportation to that school but every public school is required to make public transportation available for every student. It IS a want and need issue and there is no way around that.

You're right, you can sue somebody if you fall on their property but that does NOT mean you are going to win.

You are willingly paying and parking on your own. If you want to continue going to that school, you have to live with the possibility of getting your car damaged or your stuff stolen. That's life.

Wow you are such an extremist. All this over damaged property? Not going to high school over damaged property?

Thousands of people downtown park in parking garages that they pay to park in, and cars get broken into all the time. The parking garage people aren't responsible.

The same applies to this scenario.

Everyones made valid points.. any other ideas on this?

Do you guys think that since the majority that park are underaged that it should make a difference?

i agree, i'm sure there's some kind of committtee consisting of the parents/boardmembers that have alot of say as to what goes on at the school since they are the one's who keeps the school running($$$), that would be able to sway the school towards putting security measures into place.
