How do you guys feel about this?

Alright, I go to a private school that has a pretty hefty tuition; It's a high school. Anyways, the actual school is about 50 years old, and is located in a part of the ghetto of my city..

In the past month we had 15 different trucks with all the tires slashed, and had 3 cars broken into and the radios / ipods stolen etc..

Most of the people that go to this school have quite a bit of money, so they all drive nice cars.

Do you guys think it should be the schools fault for not having a security guard / cameras, or do you think its our own responsibilites? We also have to pay for these spots. The school is on one side of a main street, and we have to cross the street to get to our parking lot (for the school only).

The school is saying that it's not their fault and they should have nothing to do with it...

What do you guys think? Should it be the schools fault, or our fault being that its our property?

I know for a fact that I myself could not get there without my own car, however... and I know this applies to many other people. I have an early bird class and I have a lot of clubs to attend at various days... My mom is a single parent and works full time...

But dont just look at me, im just looking for some input on this. Just how you guys feel. I'm not here to argue with someone which one is right, but I'll say where my stance is on it. I feel that they should take about .02% of our tuition and hire maybe 2 security guards. .02% of our tuition would definately pay enough for a part time security guard.

We also just spent $6,000 on posters / supplies just to decorate the **** school, and they can't hire a security guard? With even just that money they could have went out, got some cheap cameras, a cheap computer and had some surveillance...

^^^**** you beat me^^^

no respect. If your paying for the spot than of course its somewhat their responsibility.

At my high school a couple of years ago one of my friends integra, which he lived for was robbed from the school lot, which is in the back of the school. The burglar drove it by security and had no problems leaving.

If you are your only transportation, then I think it should be the school's responsibility. Paying for a spot doens't make it their responsibility at all just like paying to park anywhere doesn't mean your car is insured through them.

I guess they could argue that you could not go to the school if you cannot get there any other way than by yourself. If you plan on trying to legally fight them, you will lose as you don't have anywhere to stand.

How? You chose to buy the spot and you choose to take a risk parking there. It's the same anywhere.

Yes, we are paying the school $40 a month for the spot. It's not much, but we are still renting it from them..

The school is in like a ghetto part of downtown. We've had countless bums walk on our campus and had many "security threats."

I think 15 trucks with slashed tires and 3 break ins is pushing it.

Remember I go to a private school. Private school = rich parents. Rich parents = nice cars for the kids.

I have friends with Mercedes, BMWs, escalades, Corvettes, and cars ranging from like $15,000 to about $95,000...

Its like a thiefs dream come true, millions of dollars of unprotected goods... And the parking lot is on the other side of a main street from the school.

I'm not taking it to court, btw. This is also the same school that banned Gays / Lesbians from going to dances together, and gave guys detentions for wearing pink shirts...

it's not their responsibility unless they REQUIRE you to drive yourself to school and they REQUIRE you to rent a spot from them.

/thread

it sucks but that's how it is

It's just part of the learning process. The school is tryng to teach you the dangers of parking in bad areas. Probably not charging you anything extra either. Now you are complaining. You = ungrateful.
They aren't smart enough to ever come up with a plan like that...

And we are being charged $40 a month for our assigned parking spot. I think I should have some type of say in it, paying $360 a year in parking... Atleast to be able to complain.
