how do i know if a sub has been abused?

i found a 12 inch l7 at a pawn shop for a good price, how do i test to see if its blown or close to it, or just generally abused, without connecting it to a setup

check the impedance with a DMM

lightly push straight down on cone, see check for any rubbing. etc. check spider/landing. motor, surround.

look at the coil, tinsels, and the general cosmetic condition of the sub

push on the center of the cone, listen for odd noises like rubbing

Smelling it could also be considered as "physical abuse", so be careful where you smell, and always ask for permission first.

if its at a pawn shop its most likely stolen too so make sure all mounting and everything is good

What I mean is, Is it Stiff or does it push down very easily. Most subs that push down with ease, are subs that have been abused.

not real familiar with the l7, but most of the time you can look through the basket vents and push up on the cone to see the coil

Oh, and I think when you push it you are looking for some kind of scraping noise...to see if its blown. But every sub I pushed did that noise imho. you have to push it in the middle of the sub...anywhere else will rub on the voice coil.....
