How did you all get into car audio?

well mine is at $605 so far. actually i went to a car audio place today and i think i blew one of their arc audio subs. they had a pair of 12s in a sealed box and i had the 1000/1 selected as the amp and now they make these weird buzzing noises, and they wanted 900 for a w7.
W7's are pricey, So what did you use that box I sold you for?

A buddy of mine had a mid to late-80s VW Fox coupe - just like this one in a rather humorous pic when I think back to what happened to Randall's poor little VeeDub. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif :

He had a Pac-Manned wall behind the two front seats with four RF Series 1 15s on some early HiFonics monoblock and at the time that was the loudest stereo of anyone I knew. Because it was the loudest setup around it was the coolest setup around and consequently I wanted big noise too.

Closest I ever got was six 12" Kicker Comps on a big 6-channel Sherwood amp. Still wasn't as loud as Randall's...

Anyway, that's my answer to how I got into caraudio to get back on-topic. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

After my dad had a CB installed in his truck, I started to get fascinated with that. Studied up on basic electronic theory and passed the entry-level amateur radio exam when I was 14 or so...I first learned about impedance with values of 50 and 300ohms for feedlines instead of speakers //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif How to calculate resonant lengths of antennas, wavelengths, stuff like that.

I carried that over to audio...same shit, different frequencies //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I can't really explain how I got into tubed-based stuff...just seemed like a really cool and different way of doing things. The whole more-with-less thing, just amazed that 70 year old technology and a small pile of parts can make such beautiful music. After I owned my Decware Zen, I realized what a bad choice I had made for my wallet...because I was going to have to have more of these things //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif Man, do I miss that little amp...
