How can ONE 10" SQL sub sound?

Hey guys, as the title suggests, I was wondering if anyone can give me a rough estimate on how a single 10" sub can sound. Even though I don't know much about them, I'm going to refrain from using words such as "lows" and "loud" since I hear those are words that are trigger words for a flame fest, ha.

The sub in question I was looking at would be the IDQv3d4 sub. I've looked around in the classifies and I see a guy selling one for fairly cheap so if I were to get that and leave it like that, as in not get a second one or anything, any ideas how it will sound? I primarily listen to rock, punk, and some classic stuff with a few rap and techno every now and the. I'm seeking tight, clean, accurate bass which from what I hear, the IDQv3d4 delivers in that aspect. The only part in question would be how would it sound during rap and techno? Still pretty decent?

If it helps, here's the rest of my system that will soon get installed. I just have to pick a day where it's not freaking raining, haha.

HU: Pioneer DEH-P880PRS

Mids: Mach 5 MLI-65

Tweets: Seas Neo aluminum

Amp: Kicker ZX700.5 (birth sheet rated at 919 watts IIRC)

As you can tell, I'm going to run the tweets, mids, and sub off of the 5 channel amp.

So what do you all think? The more descriptive you can be the better. Not to sound demanding or anything though, haha. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Any replies would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Interesting. Just what I was looking for.

James, when you say you had one, do you mean a SQL 10" sub, an ID sub, or the exact same one I'm referring to?

Let me ask just one more question if someone doesn't mind answering. When comparing a 10" sub to a 12" sub, what are the pros and cons? Is there one genre or type of music one can play better than the other?

I don't feel like getting a second amp in the future so I think I just want one sub that will give me everything I want in a sub to run off the mono channel of my Kicker amp.

Any more replies or input would be appreciated, thank you!

Alright, I lied, just one more question. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Is it possible to run two subs off of one amp channel? I'm thinking probably not but I'd just like to make sure.

Thanks!

Yes, if the subs do not go below the minimum impedence of the channel.

EX. if your amp is 2 ohm stable, you could not parallel two dvc4 ohm subwoofers, unless it was at 4 ohm receiving half power.

I like your system set up. I am running SEAS Neo Textile/MLI-65's and PRS-880 in my daily driver. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I meant to say I had an IDQ v.3

I believe it will blend in nicely with your fronstage and have the ability to make its presence known.

I wouldnt' really call it an SQL sub, though. I would get an IDMAX 10 for that purpose.

x2 The IDQv3 is more SQ than SQL

The IDMAXv3 is more SQL than SQ or SPL

i run a 10 jlw3 and lets just say it keeps up with the fastpace drumming from as i lay dying, slayer, and all the punk i listen to...Blink, Boxcar, and others like hem, and rap is pretty solid

I run a single IDQ10v3 ported in a pick-up. It's more than enough for me. I'm not so sure about running one sealed in a trunk, though... So, I guess it depends on your vehicle, how you want to run it and what kind of expectations you have.

your whole setup should sound good. the mids and tweets are talked highly off.

but if you are going to run a single 10 on about 420 watts in a trunk you better port it. put it in about 1.25cu ft and tune it low, like around 28-32hz. a 3" diameter port should be enough.

Thanks for the thread resurrection boys! I was beginning to wonder why a thread like this would have so little replies, ha.

Thanks for the kind words about my system. Took a LOT of forum searching and back and forths from different setups but I believe I found a setup that will sound great to me without breaking the bank. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Does it sound like everything I hope it would sound like? I'm guessing I'll be pleasantly surprised? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Well looks like I may not be getting the IDQv3d4 sub as originally planned (it's alright buda //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif ) so I was starting to look at other good sounding 10"s and the Dayton HO looks stellar, especially for the price. Since my amp can do 420 watts @ 2 ohms, I can only one Dayton HO sub, since it's 4 ohms. Before I entertain the though of purchasing one, is that correct?

Yeah, I was definintely consider going ported. tcguy that ported setup sounds similar to what I've heard before. If all I need is around 1.25 cu, I should be straight. I just did a measurement in my trunk and the max I could do is a length of 37 inches, a width of 10 inches, a depth of 13 inches which is right around 2.78cu ft if I did it right. If I wanted to, could I fit two 10"'s in that space?

Is there any informational links or thread that could make me feel less clueless when talking about ported enclosures? I get the cu ft part and port diameter but to be honest, I have no idea how to "tune" it to a certain hz or what that even means, haha.

Thanks again for the help everyone, it's appreciated!

yea that airspace will be plenty for 2 of most tens. if you get the dayton ho, it is a single 4 ohm coil so it can only be wired 4 ohms. so you'll get roughly half of that 420 watts. you could get two and then you'll have about 210 a piece which will be ok.
