How big a difference is noticed moving from a 31 or 32 hz to 33 or 34 hz tuned box

I just bought a ported box to get more output than what I was getting from my sealed box. I tuned the port to about 31 or 32 hz and there is no noticable increase in output from what I was getting before. Before I rip it back out of my car and go back to surgery on the port, how much difference should I expect to get from a couple hz higher tuning? Thanks

Well it'll depend what music you like listening to and where you like/expect to hear your bass. Maybe your car just peaks really high? And I'd also do a sine sweep and try to see which frequencies you're losing output at, and which ones shine. You can download a "tone generator" app for this on your smart phone or tablet.

what size is the box....how much port area........

higher tuning will almost always get slightly louder, but you will sacrifice cone control and output below tuning.. but what kind of ported box you "bought" that you can tune yourself, I'm curious to see.

You should see more output (especially in the 40-50hz range) where most normal music is (TI, Ludacris, 3 6, Busta, etc) by going up 3-4hz on tuning. You will lose a bit of control over your subs below tuning with this. Always make sure you have enough port area too, or tuning means nothing and the "port" really won't be doing anything for you.

He said he was going to tear open the box and redesign the port... so... pretty much any enclosure made of wood would apply.
He said nothing about tearing the box apart. He wanted to know the difference before he took the box back out of the car and does surgery on the port. I'm guessing he's using an aeroport or maybe some PVC or something like that lol.

considering that the internal enclosure volume, wattage supplied, and the sub are going to remain static values, you should not be able to hear a difference from one frequency to the next. maybe you might be able to hear a difference going from an enclosure tuned to 31hz to 34hz.

I dont think you will hear much of a difference.

You're talking about a VERY small change in frequencies

you have alot of factors that play into how the sub will sound by the time it gets to your ears

It would take about 5 cycles before you really notice a difference in response. Generally just moving the box around and playing with aiming woofer/ports in different directions will be more dramatic effect.

One with a precision port that is he already purchased. If you tape them together you can take them apart are cut down the pipe raising the tuning. If you do that though you have to buy a new center section if you want to drop the tuning back down.
