How big a difference is noticed moving from a 31 or 32 hz to 33 or 34 hz tuned box

I was able to tell a difference between 34 and 31.6hz, the lower tune even had less cone area and less xmax, motor force was slightly more on the lower tuned one though. Both were able to play into the upper 20s, but the lower tuned box rolled off around 23-24hz and the higher tuned box rolled off around 27-28hz. The woofers I'm comparing are 2 MTX 7500 12s vs 1 MTX 8000 15.

That was a bunch of different variables man. Different motor, different size cone (and soft parts), different cone area, different amount of drivers, different size box (I'm assuming), and different port. There is no way to positively say the port freq. change made that difference.

I agree here. I should have used a better example. There is definitely an audible difference between 32 and 35hz, I have built 2 different boxes (1.9cf w/2 3in pvc tuned at 32.2 and 2.07cf w/1 4in pvc tuned at 35.5) for a Boston G1 12 and the lower tuned box played strong into the 20s before rolling off hard and the 35hz box rolled off around 29-30. My point is, I am fairly certain That I can hear the differences of different tunes, when freqs below 35hz are played, but I'm not going as far as saying I can hear the difference between 1/2-1hz of tuning but, the difference is there if you pay close attention to it.

When I get around to building a new box with a removable port for my g5's and when I pick up a meter, I will test different ports and test the true accuracy of my ears //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I agree KD, I would think that someone should find a noticeable difference in a box tuned to 32 vs 35. The peak should be 1-2hz higher (which would make all different songs be the loudest), and the bottom end drop off/unloading should be multiple hz lower. I was just pointing out to the OP that tuning alone wasn't the only reason you experienced so much difference in sound from your two setups.

I recently opened the baffle between my two subs (which both lowered port frequency and gained net volume), and I have noticed that I lost just a bit of output at used to be my peak 44, and I now peak about 40 while gaining a ton of low end.
