how bad is it 2 mount an amp on the box

Over on SSA, one guys showed some pics of his sundown amps on a box and one of the SSA guys (Jacob probably) told him to definitely put some rubber grommets under the mounting feet to help with vibrations and Jacob overbuilds his amps I hear, so if he says to use rubber feet then definitely use rubber feet.

never had any problems out of the amp cause it wasnt there for long but when it was mounted to the box one of the 2 screws (same ones we use to build the boxes that was holding it snaped and the amp fell so I took it down because I didnt want it to keep falling.

I now have the amp behind the box (I have a armrest that lets down) on a peice of mdf with the box pushed all the way up against it and the box bolted down

Have had many amps on the back of my boxes and never once had a problem, this was with or without rubber feet.
It is pretty rare to have a failure, I've mounted many amps to a box without feet in the past. Just a good precaution to take as it costs like 2 dollars and takes a couple of seconds.

I've also never had a power wire short out, but I use fuses anyway //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Same general idea.

I've only had one problem when I mounted an amp to a box. A soldered connection came loose causing the amp to cut in/out. 15 minute fix from the time I went to the car to pull it out, found the culprit, and the time I hooked it back up, so no biggie. But it could have been a weak soldering job to begin with, who knows.

i have my amps mounted on my box and my old setup was that way too, never used anything to dampen the vibrations and ive never had a problem

True, I also use fuses! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

If you build your box strong enough for the equipment you're running and properly mount it to the car, it shouldn't vibrate at all.

I had a 15'' Fi Q with 1200 watts behind it and I mounted the amp directly to the back of the box, without rubber grommets, and it never skipped a beat for close to a year.

Notice the huge difference in the number of people that have problems and those that don't. I think most people just have their amps break for various reasons, but they like to blame it on being mounted to the box. Can anybody actually prove that mounting an amp to the box caused it to break?

this thread takes away some of my worries, I'll be mounting my amp on my box tomorow when my sub gets here

Only thing is with it being an 18 I think everything will be vibrating
