how bad is it 2 mount an amp on the box

then puch your speaker box all the way to the rear of the trunk and lay your amp infront of it. then screw it down to the cars floor. or make a false floor with mdf and screw it to that if you don't want to cause any damage to the car.

if you don't like that then just mount it to the back of your box..

I have seen it done in many high end installs, but then again I read a couple times that its bad to do that because of the vibrations. But my opinion is if the amp cant handle the vibration, then that amp is a piece of shit since most amps can handle it.

its okay to mount an amp to the box, just hitting bumps and driving will shake your amp more than the box will, so the vibrations aren't really a big concern. I do have 2 gripes about mounting an amp to a box, but they aren't a big deal.

1) mounting the amp to the box doesn't look very good, IMO. it just looks haphazardly done unless you do it really clean and make your wires super neat. we mounted my friend's ampt to the side of his box and it looks nice, but usually it just looks really amateur

2)with your amp mounted to the box, it makes the whole setup easier to steal, thieves only have one thing to grab and no bolts to undo, they just snip wires and they have your amp, sub, and box in no time.

my reasons for not doing it are really just not that big of a deal. i know i wrote a lot, but i'm still drunk from last night and my mind is just rolling lol

It does look kinda crappy. Here is a pic of my old system:

Yeah I know...caps. There gone. It looked a lot better from the front of the box with the beauty panel flushing the box in. But I did not like those subs sealed!

My amp got a broken FET, possibly from vibrations. However, I was at least the third owner. Lots of shipping. If it got abused before me, any vibrations that normally wouldn't bother it probably just helped it along.

Laser, that looks good for a box mounted setup. Wires are routed and organized well enough to look clean. Plus, those are some sick amps. Agreed n the Type-R's ******* sealed.

that looks good man, what are you talkin about crappy???? well yours look 1000 times better than mine. : ^ )

Thanks. I mean, it is decent for having everything exposed. But, I like stealth. I wish I could take credit for the install, but it was done by Sound Innovations (they've been featured in Car Audio Mag over 25 times) so I paid out the *** for it. But that was before I stumbled upon this site. I've been doing my own installs ever since. And if I did that one, I would have built a rack for the amps and caps, and ran the wire underneath it so it was hidden. So I guess in this case, I wouldn't have mounted the amps on the box. My next setup is going to be a 5ch and single sub though, so I'll just put the enclosure on one side of the trunk and the amp on the other, on an MDF rack with all the wiring hidden.

Recess the amp in the box like I did.. For the wires, I ran some 3/4" PVC from the recess base to the back of the box. That will allow 2 sets of RCA's and all speaker wires through one side, and 2 4awg for power and ground easily.

That was kind of a no-brainer for me because I am putting sounds in my standard cab s10. Needed to utilize all the room I could within the enclosure.

Mounting amplifiers to enclosures is extremely common. Amplifiers vibrated to death is very rare. This should tell you something.

If you are really worried about it, use some rubber grommets as mounting pads for the amp(s), that'd help a little.
