how bad is .5 ohm

I guess i just dont see how buying new subs would be any more cost efficient then changing the amp, but whatever, maybe you could find someone to trade straight up, i dunno...

well becouse if i ever wanted to add subs or anything like that for that matter( amps anything) 90% of the good class d amps are all ran best at 1 ohm so the 2 ohm load subs kinda **** man, but i have them and dont really want to just buy a new set up i was wanting to use what i have to the best of its abilitys. from the sounds of it i allready am at 2 ohm. the last choice i have it to take one sub out and just build a big *** ported box and run it at 1 ohm with to many watts( doing exsactly what i was asking for when asking if i can run them both day to day at .5) it will be loader like that then it is at the moment and i also have a sub that way for my other car, i was just wanting to see if it was a bad idea or a good one. from the sounds of it it was a really bad idea

Ya you could definantly take one out and run one hard, then yse the otehr for your other car, thats a win-win.

that and i will run my amp at its best, i can at that point just buy another hifonics for the other car and when i pop them or get tired of spl subs and want to go with sq i will have the amps to push them at 1 ohm for then new duel 4ohm

If you set the gains CAREFULLY the amp should be fine at .5ohm and you should get a little more clean power then you are at 2ohms.....

If you crank it up you could very well blow it up... those amps arn't exactly bullet proof...

see that is what i was thinking aswell man but half these guys said no

i am not going to just crank it up i was going to instead of haveing the gain at 90% and the bass boost at like 30% i can run it down to .5 put the gains at like 35% and the bass boost down to nothing( as it should be) and run the head unit down some. i think the amp should be running about the same heat as it is now like that and i have more controle at the head unit to play

just not to play to much=)

how about trying to set the gain correctly instead of just turning it like a dial? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

its the same drain on the car as putting another amp on it
its just **** hard on the amp and mess's with its efectiveness
No, thats not what a gain does, or is. Its an adjustment that you use to measure your output and make sure your amp is putting out what it needs to be, but you need a DMM, a good ear, or an oscilliscope (sp?) to make sure its right. Just turning it up or down without any indication of if its clipping or not is a good way to fry your sht quickly. But hey, set it how you want, its not my amp.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

anyway you look at it the hole time your messing with impedance all you are doing is tricking the amp into sending out a signal its not trying to put out, there all 4 ohm to start with tell you start messing with impedance

well that is the point tho man im looking at a dmm, got a great ear, and can just go use a osiloscop when i get close , still makeing sure its underpowering the subs before i take it to the osiloscop. by no way was i talking about doing it half *** or being a dumb **** about it
