How are Alpine SPS-517 speakers?

I recently purchased some Alpine SPS-517 speakers and I was wondering what other owners of them thought? The reviews were pretty spectacular. Also, would they benefit a good amount from getting a separate amp for them or is the head unit sufficient?

I dont think too many people have these considering the less popular size but im sure they'll sound good specially paired with a nice Alpine 4 channel amp.

I just installed them today and they sound magnificent! I'm definitely going to invest in a 4 channel amp within the near future for them.

Yup, if you like them now i imagine you'd fall in love if you send them atleast 80 watts

I might wait and upgrade to the Type-R's eventually before I get a separate amp for the speakers themselves

don't sound too bad for the price, deffinatly amp them and do some sound deading in your doors too. gives them a lot nicer sounding midbass

I'm new to the whole amps for speakers thing. What would be a good amp to match 4 of the speakers I purchased? Also, will the amp make them sound better or just make them louder?

Id go with a matching Alpine 4 channel amp like the MRP-F300, on amazon it should be around $100-$120. Yes, them being amped is going to make them sound noticeably better besides the fact that they will be a lot louder.

That is most likely the amp that I will get, however I will have to get a new HU at the same time because I don't have the correct amount of outputs on my current one. This one seems like a good one (Alpine CDE-147BT CD receiver at Crutchfield.com)
