Hotel Charged Me $350 For Damages, Can I Dispute With Visa?

Regardless, there was no ash in the room, nor any proof that we smoked, so I dont get why the charge was even placed on there.... without consent or prior notice.

Also, the hotel does NOT get the final say on whether or not we pay up for this right? Visa can actually void it all correct?

They have a say whether they act on the charges, but yes visa can void it depending on the situation.

I just wanna know what visa can do for me before I tell my bud to go ahead and call, kinda so we can go in educated you know

Call visa and ask to talk to someone about a dispute and explain the situation to them, their gonna wanna talk to the card holder.

Guy 2 posts up is talking about the hotel sueing? How would that be possible? If we put a good effort into disputing the charges with Visa (which Im confident) would prove successful, then we simply wouldnt have to pay and that would be final for such a small ammount right? They wouldnt take us to court.

And if Visa for some odd reason sided with the hotel company, Im sure we would just all have to pay the damages.... Or am I dreamin on these possible outcomes

VISA for the mos part will always side with the account holder unless they see explicit fraud. It's like you having the ability to call your bank and put a stop payment on a check. Visa doesn't actually rule against or for the charge in fact they can't legally. It is VISAs job to do what is requested and keep their customer happy. The hotel probably has Lawyers or collection agencies on retainer and will forward this debt to them if the charges are reversed on the card. Then they will set up a case against him to seek judgement on the debt legally.

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and say you don't visit here much.

Just FYI, caraudio.com/forum is the place you want to go for CAR AUDIO AND RELATED ADVISE. We are not VISA/MASTERCARD/AMERICAN EXPRESS. Subsequently, we are also not the following: A law firm, a paralegal, a library, a hospital, a school, etc etc.

Calling VISA is where you can get accurate advise and information, and not just hear-say. If you wait long enough to call, VISA may think you're trying to hide something or hoping the hotel will lose the evidence and they won't go to bat for ya.

i work for Marriott and can tell you that when someone reverses charges we just turn it over to a collection agency and ruin their credit. On top of ruined credit it ends up costing them at least twice what it would have cost to just pay the fine.

You smoked in our room and you got what you deserved.

heres all i can tell you from LOTS of personal experience...

I plan national paintball tournaments. 5 a year. when a hotel sees 16 guys and usually 4-8 girlfriends comming in with dirty *** lugage (gear bags, its an unwritten law that it must rain atleast once at every tournament to make everything muddy) and everyone pretty pumped and excited they always seem to cop an attitude.

that being said, 75% of the time we get charged extra for the rooms for some bullshit. i know because the teams entry for the tournaments AND hotel rooms all get put on my visa. i always have to call up and talk to costumer service at visa to straighten shit out. its a huge pain in the *** but you gotta do what you gotta do. thats what i get for traveling with 15 other immature dudes that are loud and obnoxious in the halls and lobby.

just call customer service and tell them the story. they DEFINATLY cant prove you were smoking...
