I was thinking about the Yamaha yht-750, but after doing some searching it has quite a few bad reviews.

JBL SCS300.7 also looks pretty nice

Agreed. Thats what my dad has for his and it is quite nice

Buy a used reciever for cheep.

Don't be a n00bish!!! Don't buy your speakers; make them yourself! Buy a bunch of mids, tweets, capacitors, inductors, a nice sub amp, and let's not forget the subwoofer. Make the cabinets yourself with bare MDF. Who needs pretty looking boxes?

I highly suggest a Harman Kardon. Best receiver I've ever bought. It might send you a little over your price range to buy that AND speakers (not sure what these receivers are going for now), but it's well worth it!

I check out a Onkyo surround sound system at Circuit City yesterday. Sounded pretty **** nice and was only $400 bucks

well if you have 750 W then i give you credit but i doubt you do.

if you are careful this amp will do 3 ohms.
