HO alternator for a jeep

Your choices for Jeep alternators are basically Mean Green, PowerMaster and the shady eBay sellers. The first are too expensive and none of the eBay sellers seemed especially reliable (Iraggi, Alterstart, HO Alts), yet most on CA seem to be buying them. You might look at the 150A alternator part for th 5.9L Grand Cherokee P/N# R6041394AA. This is the refurb model and would give you 2160w to play with. Price is $152.50, but includes a $50 core charge, which I don't think you would qualify for. However, the one I received from the dealer has a sticker marking it as 137A, so I question whether it really is a 150A rebuild, but Kolak of JU fame swore up and down that his contact says this was a mistake.

Wycoff is the cheapest online dealer I have found:

4.0 and 5.9 have different mounting points. BTW the best bet in your situation if you need a cheap HO alt would have been to find a alt off a 01-03 Durango with the Fire Truck package, its a 160amp, I found one on http://www.car-part.com for $50

thanks alot guys

the owner of my local shop said irragi would be a good choice but all i hear about them is that they have alot of problems

jdawg- would that alt have the same mounting points as the stock xj?

honestly, i wouldnt really have much trouble fabricating a mounting bracket for an alt with different mounting points

the mounting is a little different, pm snoopdan, he has a cherokee xj, i forget where he got his alt, he is running dual alts but i am sure they have a single set up. I would send mean green an email, i bet they could get ya something, your case is decent sized, I would stop by some local alt/starter shops and see if you can get yours rewound

snoopdan (iirc) runs H-O brand alts. said he wont run anything else.

i run mean green with no problems so far.

your gonna pay for quality.

HO wanted 450 for a 220a alt

mean green wanted 392 for a 200a alt

They were the same except for the pulley, but Chrysler changed everything in '99. I didn't bother checking for once and of course was wrong.

I have a 98 5.9 limited... ordered an iraggi that was lame and didnt do close to the advertised power... my stock 150 did much better. I sent it back and have yet to see anything and im out $400... my advice till dom gets back to me some day would be stay away from them...unless you want to be screwed...

If this is the alternator you have, I have a brand new 160A alternator for a 2001 Dodge Durango that will work. Connections are identical to the one Alterstart is selling. Sounds like it is the same one jdawg is talking about. You would have to swap out the pulley for a 6-groove.

If you are interested, I will sell it for $190. Here is the listing I have had on it: http://www.dodgeforum.com/m_745579/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm#745579
