Hifonics - The Truth

I never thought I would say otherwise (you can look back on previous posts, maybe under AE?) but Hifonics are without a doubt extremely overrated.

Having said that, I have been running a Hifonics 1606D for a little over a year. It recently bit the dust and I moved to a Soundstream EGA1700D. Rated at 100 more watts (1600w to 1700w), and my output and fusing has gone through the roof.

I'm 3 hours from ngsm13 now so I doubt I can verify any of this on a meter, but without a doubt I would put the Hifonics in the low 1k range if I had to guess (based purely on inline fusing).

could you define fusing and output as you don't have numbers in terms of actual wattage to prove as well as a DB number to show a difference?
My 60A inline fuse doesn't hold as it has for over a year with the 1606D. That's not science, it's an obvious statement. I've been through this before with you guys on here and can link the thread if needed. I predicted a 145 in my first car setup in 7 years and you all called bullshit. ngsm13 verified my guess with a TL. I'm pretty sure after a year of bass I can sense a db gain in my own car.

My stereo is in fact louder, and whether scientific or not has more draw than the previous setup. I'll post videos tomorrow. I'm sure the science of flex videos will be enough to substantiate what I'm saying to most of the dbags on here as I have before/after shots.

Definitely, who actually thinks they put out anywhere near 1600 watts anyways? They are rated at like 13.8 volts too, so who knows how much they put out around 12-13. Could be significantly less. I bet with a great electrical, those things probably only put out 1300 rms.

And a few hundred watts won't make a huge difference. It's probably just the quality of the amp has improved. It doesn't matter how high an amp or speaker are rated, if they are of bad quality they won't sound good loud.

i had a bxi2607, served me great, a buddy of mines bought it from me, and said it was alot stronger than his sundown 1500 which i think those do what around 1700, idk but just telling my experience with bxi series, i also had bxi 1607....... it was meh, i know it was overrated alot cause when i did a direct swap with a jl 1000.1 it was hardly a noticeable difference, but as far as fact and actual numbers i have no idea, but for the price it's ftw

This isnt the best comparison, because it compares a class a/b at 4ohm, to a class d at 1ohm...but i just went from a 800a2 bridged at 4ohm, which put out a little over 1000rms to a BXi1508d at 1ohm that is supposed to be 1500rms. I know the Hifonics isnt doing 1500, but its doing at least 1000. It sounds the same as the fosgate, only on the Fosgate the gain and bass was quite a bit higher than I have on the Brutus. I do believe that the brutus is slightly stronger than the fosgate. However, there is a difference in sq. The fosgate sounds much cleaner on low notes, but as has been talked about before on this forum, the Brutus amps for whatever reason struggle with low frequencies

The 1606D has two 80A internal fuses. How were you running a 60A inline fuse and not popping it everyday? No wonder you think you were only getting around 1k.

Isnt the rule of thumb that on average, it takes a 200% increase in power or cone area to go up 1 db. If that is the case, i doubt you are up a db unless the soundstream is under-rated. I like you will explore the possibility of the Hifonics being over rated but not the sound stream being under rated. I like Hifonics either way.

If you have decent voltage you can run a lower fuse daily. I ran a 200 Amp on my RD 3250 V.1 daily and never blew it, the amp was wired at .5 ohm with gains about 7/8ths and a Hifonics mx-3 to stop clipping.
