Hifonics really that overrated?

I have had my mind set on the Hifonics Brutus 1500bx. I am running one 12 inch MTYX 8500 at 4 ohms and will be picking up another mtx 8500 later on down the road. I like the looks and features of the amp especialy for the price. Should I go with something else? I will be running it at 4 ohm for now and then 2 ohm when I get the other sub. Any inputs? I will be ordering my amp within the next few days

There are probably 4 threads on the same topic on this page. It is a good starter amp, for the money vs. watts, but it is overrated. The numbers are at 14.4 volts, and even at that, it has been said they dont put out what they are rated for. My friend has one right now and can stand it. I wouldnt reccomend it. What is the RMS on those subs?

it's slightly overrated..(read that how you will //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif) but many other rbands out there will actually do or exceed their rated power...without needing a bolt of lightning to do so.

I like the Soundstream Tarantula series, but **** they are expensive... What about a JBL 1200.1 with the gain turned down a bit?
Sealed or Ported box? If ported you are going to want a subsonic for it.....

Polecat's hint at a kx1200.1 would be nice... nine.1 is nice as well. I had a Brutus, 1000 and 1500, neither let me down. Might not put out its rated power, but got the job done pretty well regardless

Yeah that is why I was not going to stick with MTX. The amp must have a subsonic filter since I am running a ported box. Why MTX does not have subsonic filters on thier amps is rather hard to believe.

sure you are just saying that because u think its true... o wait if it doesnt break and works for years its a good deal..... they arent bad amps really at all if you are on a budget even if your not actually lol i know imma get flamed but i used to make pyramid sound pretty sweet for customers too way way way back when

Hmm, 120 amps fuse rating on the BX1500D, still doesn't look like a bas amp.

Does anyone have any info on the Hifoncs Colossus amps, what are the fuse ratings on those? They seem to look good in design.

Fuse rating does not dictate minimum output, only max. You cant use fuse rating to say amp X will put out Y amount of watts, only that amp X can put out a MAX of Y amps.
