Why would he have a blown coil?your cone is warm with the alpine or the Brutus? if the alpine was louder and the Brutus is making that cone get warm you may have a blown coil(assuming that you are using the same sub and enclosure).
Sorry I probably should have givin my reasoning...lol. If he has a coil that is opening up on a dual voice coil then so his one voice coil would would get more power( for example if he has a duel 2 sub and wired to 1 ohm he is getting 800 RMS to each coil if one coil is open the amp is seeing 2 ohms and feeding the one coil 1100 RMS over powering the voice coil) Though just a shot in the darkWhy would he have a blown coil?
If the cone is getting warm, or more than likely the dustcap, it is the coil heating up. Meaning you are running too much power, or clipping your amplifier. Or both.
