Hi/Low/off pass filter question

Hi, well I got my old school alpine amp running my 4x6.5 coaxial speakers on it.. My question is, whats the diff beftween Hi pass filter and the OFF.. I know I should not run low pass on 6.5.

I got a VW Gti golf, and the car has stock tweeters in the back and on the dash which are wired together with the 6.5's

Would it be fine to still have them connected this way while running my 6.5's on my amp? Can I damage my tweeters?

If I'm not mistaken, off means it would send a full range of frequencies through it

I didnt quite understand what you were saying

But under NO conditions do you want to send lower frequencies to your tweeters

They go poof and die

well my stock car tweeters where always wired together with the stock 6.5's from Volkswagen, its done like this from the dealer.. the tweeters plug directly into the 6.5's.. now I got 2-way coaxial alpine 6.5's + the stock VW tweeters.

The tweeters have some kind of capacitor on them which i'am thinking is some kind of filter for low frequencies?? can this be possible?

Yes, the capacitor is there to block low frequencies. I would turn the crossover on your amp to the "off" position unless you're running subs in addition to the factory speakers.

Well I have 2-way coaxial 6.5 alpine's now instead of the stock 6.5's

what would the hi pass filter be for on a 4 ch amp? it would be to power tweeters only??

do you only use hi pass for tweeters?

Say you had another amp that was powering subwoofers. You would want to send low frequencies to them and then you would want to use the high pass filter on your amp for the coaxials. No sense in running low frequencies to your subs and your coxes. But in your case you do NOT have subs so you might as well send them full range and just watch how loud you turn it up so the really low bass dosen't kill your 6.5" speakers.

I do have a sub, but its running on my HCCA 225 amp

My other amp is the 4ch alpine for my in-car speakers..

So should i send mixed freq. to the 6.5 or just hi freq since I already have a sub giving bass with a diff amp?

Would I notice a big diff if my 4ch was running just high freq and my orion just for my bass? or would it still be good to have the 4ch running full freq all the time even though I have another amp powering my sub?

Is it ok to switch between hi/low/off while the amp is running?

Can't see how it would hurt anything but why not just shut it off while doing it to be sure.

Well i wanted to see the difference in sound by pushing it on/ff/on/off...but i guess I'll change it off

Hey another quick question... My HCCA 225 amp has a built-in EQ,does it make a difference in sound for the bass of my sub??

only 1x10" sub at 1ohm type-R, this amp is only running my sub
