you usually have to start as package handler. That is part time (17-20 hours a week) makinf abour $7.50 a hour. Then after 4 years you can move up to shuttle car driver. Package handler is a fast paced job. You really have to work your *** off for that 7.50. Unloading a semi by yourself every morning or night.

My buddy worked with a driver as a driver's assistant for the holidays a couple years ago and he made $6/hr cash and worked his *** off... he said 10-14 hours a day.
Getting a job for the post office is even harder. It took my brother something like 2 years or longer and he still isn't a full time postman. Still sorts mail and everything. Its really ridiculous but once you get in you can't ever get fired pretty much.
