Hey there-

After reading through some of your guys' posts, and recently having a small dilemma of my own, I decided to ask your expertise on this subject matter:D

Now, I have a 98 cavalier with 1 dd 12" 3500 in a sealed enclosure made for 2 subs. (Idle Type X in the other side takin up space) anyways-- Im pushin the 3500 with a kenwood 1000 2ch amp-bridged. AND OH LORDY, does that mofo just slam although my amp cuts out constantly. When I first hooked this setup up, I had my amp 3/4's the way up--and watched it cut out every other bass hit //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif Obviously this is because it can not push the dd. I turned my amp down..like way down... like its at 1/4 if its power right now. No more cutting out, and it still SLAMS hard as FFFFFFFF with vol on 25 (of 50) woofer out on 1(of 8) and bass on +2 (of 8) My roommate's boss told us that if we swapped boxes, and got a single ported box, loudness would almost double. so were building a new box this weekend out of 3/4 MDF board. 21x22x16 external dimensions. 6" port i believe

Now for the issue..

I have a kenwood kac-9152d 1800watt mono amp on the way that I JUST purchased off of ebay like...2 days ago. The thing is, is ill have a dd 9500 inplace of the 3500 in a couple of days here. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif compliments of my roommates co-worker who does SPL comps. and uses only dd9500

Is a kac9152d amp enough to push a 9500 on an everyday level? I'm an IT technician, im in my car constantly through out the day. I dont know how many watts a 12" 9500 is, but I don't want to hurt it at all. I dont want my sub yawnin cuz the amp isnt shit, and I dont want my amp yawnin cuz the sub isnt shit..which i know isnt the case lol.. So..any help you guys can give is greatly appreciated.

The 9500 is a 1200 watt RMS woofer capable of taking more power. That kenwood amp you are buying is only 500@ 4 ohms, 900@ 2 ohms, and also 900@ 1 ohm.

You will be fine with 900 watts.

ahhh you have a 2ch amp, whats the final ohm load of the subs. if u have dual 4ohm voice coil and your bridging your amp, your amp cant handle 2ohm bringe, and your forcing it into protection!

I know the amp's specs. But then where does the 1800watts max power come in?

then why would they advertise it as an 1800watt amp..isn that fraud..//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif

No. Because It's not rated @ 1800 watts. It is up to the consumer to know how to read wattage measurements. A lot of people are fooled by the MAX rating. The only rating on an amp that actually dictates power output is the RMS rating.

Any amp that follows the CEA-2006 standard of rating will have the actual output power rated in RMS.
