Hertz HSK165. Going active tomorrow.

i forgot what amp i'm running right now but it puts out 125w x 4. i set the gains by ear and have the mids turned about 1/3 of the way up and the tweets turned 1/4.

i would say about 125w to the mids and a lot less than 125w for the tweets. when you measure the tweeter output from the amp, the volt reading is a lot lower than the mids when the gains are set at the same level.

Well i've been tweaking them more and more everyday and they seem to sound better and better everyday. Today I got to tweaking the gain on the mid and now i'm much more pleased. Just an //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif to those interested/bored.

Yes you are running passive if your using the x-overs. You have to use your x-overs in your HU. I'm not really the best person to explain the whole active thing.

But as of now you are passove.

An update for those interested.

Hertz hsk tweeters can be crossed as low as 1.6k and still hold up very well. very very well.

And the mids can take a bit more power than I though they could. Ever since i've had them they just haven't sounded as good as everyone turned them out to be.

But now that I have started to toy with it again. The more i'm likin it. Thinkn hard to trade my 955mc in for an 800prs or 9887. And get me an equalizer. If anybody has any input I would like to hear it.

YOu are all using teh terms high pass and low pass backwards. His mid is low passed at 1.6K or whatever, meaning everything lower than that will be passed, and they are high passed at 160Hz, meaning everything higher will pass.

so you have the xover at 1.6khz for the tweeters?

i just wouldnt see those playing that low efficiently, my ml280s are crossed at 2250hz

but ive never used them without the passive so i could be wrong //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

im looking at a set here and from factory they are crossed at 3300hz 12db

i'd recommend to run bandpass crossover if ur amp has that function but most dont . The one i've seen is audison 5.1k has that fuction.

The tweeter should be cross at somewhere 2.9k or something i don't remember, just check the hertz website or ur manual they'll tell you what frequency it is crossed at.

yea i forgot ur HU can do the crossover stuff //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif get clarion DRZ9255 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

you think?

for the price of that unit, it better.

...and it does.

Remember, just because they can be crossed that low, doesn't mean they should.
