Ok, So I have a Kenwood Excellon KAC-811D amp. 1600 peak. @ 1 ohm 1016W.. if your getting the 14.4V which you arent. I have that hooked up with my Blackmore 2 Farad Cap. Thats hooked up to my JL 13w7. The sub is wired in Parallel. When I turn up the volum though, I hear this popping noise on the sub? The subs is in a custom sealed box that I made. Any idea why its making this poping noise?

What do you have the gains set at ? Is the "popping noise" metal sounding ? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

OK, So heres all the info I can gather. My amp says is 1016watts at 1 ohm. But how do I even know if its at 1ohm or 4 ohm? Supposing the amp is at 1 ohm right now. My sub is in parallel. The settings on the amp are as follows

Input Sensitivity (V): .6 or .7

LPF Freq (Hz): 140

B.R.F Freq (Hz): 160

Amp Cont: ON

Phase: 0 degrees

BRF: OFF

ISF: ON

ISF Freq: 15Hz (Lowest)

These were all set by a professional that I know when I had my 2 jl 15w3's in. He tuned the amp for them and these are the settings that are on it. I dont know what I should change if anything. I duno if this will help anyone diagnose what might be making this popping noise.

Turn the gain down, it is not a volume control. A sub can pop when it is being fed a clipped signal due to too high a gain. This is a dual 1.5 ohm coil sub, correct. If you have it wired in parallel, you are presenting the amp with a load of under 1 ohm (which is was not designed for) and are more than likely damaging the sub.

With box rise I bet it's close or over one ohm. I'm not too familiar with kenwood amps. When you say .6 .7 how high does it go , and how low ? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I think some of your acronyms are screwy.

SSF = subsonic filter

LPF = lowpass filter

HPF = highpass filter

What music are you playing?

Sounds like your sub is bottoming out. And in some cases, a sealed sub is more likely to over-excurt than one in a ported box.

If the amp is seeing a load under one ohm, I'd be more worried about the amp.

And as far as how you know "if the amp is at one ohm or four ohms," you should disconnect the sub leads from the amp and "ohm it out" - meter it to find it's impedance.

Well the acronyms are just what is says on the amp. I don't know what they stand for, but thats what it says on the amp. Which one of these is the gain? I don't really know, on my brothers amp his says gain right on the knob, but the kenwood amp im usuing does not. To answer RAMOS the input sensitivity can go from 5 to .2 Right now it is set at about .6 or .7

I am almost certain the box is fully sealed. I used screws, wood glue all around, and then I sealed all the edges with silicone. How would I find out if i missed any spots? I listened next to the box and didn't hear any hissing noises or anything to show signs of air being pushed out.

Last, so should I keep the sub wired in parallel or switch it over to series where it would be at a 3 ohm? If i switch it over do I have to change anything on the amp?

Thanks

Aight let's see here according to kenwood your amp will put out 919w RMS at 2ohm. And you currently have your sub wired to .75 nom. I think your overpowering your box in the current enclosure. Try wiring the sub in series and run it at 3ohm. You will only be feeding it 500w, but see if the noise you here has stopped.

P.s. I still don't understand the scale on the input sensitivity ( gain ). 5-.7 or is it .7 -5 ?? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
