my friend just got his second type r 12 in today...up until today he has been running only one, bridged at 4ohms......

he has a 2 channel amp and needs to hook them up for a 2 ohm load...how should it be wired...

i dont know what to tell him, because the type r's have those little jumpers and i dont know what to tell him...

would it be like this...does he need to keep the amp bridged?

2 DVC drivers with Voice Coils in Series / Parallel

Connecting the two voice coils of each driver in series (+ to -) and the drivers themselves in parallel (+ to +, etc.) will result in the following impedances:

Dual-6 Ohm Subwoofers: 6 Ohms

Dual-4 Ohm Subwoofer: 4 Ohms

Dual-2 Ohm Subwoofer: 2 Ohms

Dual-1.5 Ohm Subwoofer: 1.5 Ohms

they are both dual 2 ohm....that is why he needs a 2ohm load...

He needs a 2 ohm load because they are dual 2? I dont quite understand that logic...

But he wants a final impedance of both subs wired together to be 2 ohms? If so then wire them exactly like this:

why doesnt it make sense?
Because you don't have the capability to understand?

Here is what you do. Take each speaker. Wire the jumper to give a final load of 4ohms on each one. Then just run a wire from the positive terminal to the second subs positive terminal to the amp. Then repeat for the negative.

Maybe you are trying to say something else, but wiring them to 2 ohms BECAUSE they are dual 2 coil configurations doesnt make any sense at all. But if he needs a 2 ohm final load, then you have what you need to do so.
i told him to get dual 4...but because he got dual 2 the only options are to either run them at .5 ohm, and his amp wont do that...or 8 ohms, which isnt much power on that amp....

it wont hurt them or anything to be wired at 2 ohms will it?

no i understand that....i thought he was saying something else....

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif Two DVC 2 ohm subwoofers can be wire to .5, 2, and 8 ohm loads. Neither of these wiring configurations will damage a subwoofer, the amp is the only thing to worry about when dealing with impedance loads.

As stated .5, 2, or 8.

As long as the amps power rating @ 2ohms does not exceed the drivers RMS rating, no. It will not be damaged.
