help with Subsonic filter

Need a little help in setting my subsonic filter....

I got a hifonics 1500 d and have no ideia what I should set my sub sonc filter to. it ranges from 15 to 35 HZ

My box is tuned to around 37-38 hz

so what suould I set my SSF to?

I think it supposed to be a half octave lower than what your box is tuned to.

I think I remember seeing that you take your tuning * .75 and set it there.

As far as I know when using ported the subsonic should be 1/2 octave lower than what the box is tuned to because anything under that the box won't be able to control the sub which will make them bottom out.

I kinda forgot how to calculate it but it think for a box tuned to say 40hz: 40/2=20, 20/2=10, 10+20=30 hz for that enclosure.

So if your box is tuned to 38 hz it think it goes like: 38/2=19, 19/2=9.5, 9.5+19=28.5

seriously, just set it to some arbitrary number. not one person here can tell you why, fundamentally, they choose the formula that they chose.

you'll see a lot of "half octave" or "5hz less" or " third octave" or "3/4th the tuning frequency" or "20hz" or ect...

not one person who says this has any clue why. its just something they tried and had work. or worse, just something they heard and passed on.

in anycase, a half octave is 0.707x the reference frequency.

the easist method is still the obvious one -- SSF up to max, music with dangerously low bass, volume up, lower SSF until something sounds wrong. its almost as if your setting the SSF based upon your actual setup and not some arbitrary formula that someone made up.
