Help with speakers please

I have a pair of The Elemental Designs EDI 6500s:

However, they don't fit my doors! I have an absolute maximum mounting depth of 2.5 inches. I'll be running the components off of a nine.2:

It won't be easy to sell the 6500s since one of the frames on a mid is cracked. It doesn't effect the performance though. Because of this, I would like to know if it is okay to just look for a good mid that will fit my door. I don't want to sh!t can my crossovers and tweeters.

What are some medium to high quality mids that will work for me? (or something in the realm of the 6500s) Don't worry about price. I want to see what my options are.

I heard some Focal 165Vslims with the yellow cone and I liked them. The only problem is they were $540 at the car audio shop I go to. The salesman I spoke with said he would cut me a deal for $450, but that isn't set in stone.

2.5" is the max depth with a spacer without having to make/modify my door panels. I don't have the skill to make decent door panels.

98 king cab tacoma. 2wd 2.4l auto.

Have any of you guys installed deep mids in the factory Tacoma locations? If I build out with MDF rings, I need to cut a hole in the door panel. Any ideas on how to not make it look like crap?

I'd really like to use the EDI's if I can and I don't want to do kicks.
