Help with setting gains

When I use my DMM to set my gains on my Hifonics amp, it doesn't seem to reach the calculated voltage, even with the gains all the way up. I can't seem to figure out why this would happen.

No, its at the norml listening level. and a JVC KW-XG500. Would the 2.5V preamp output have something to do with it?

I've read numerous threads and tutorials from other sites, not quite sure what you have me looking for there. I have also looked up to see if anyone had the same problem I am and could not find much.

2.5v preouts will need to have the gains set higher than 4v preouts would for the same output, but not that extreme where you'd need the gains maxed out. you got to be doing something wrong or possibly have some inadequate wiring. are you using the correct dc setting on your dmm? is the volume on the hu around 75%? are the sub levels turned up at the hu? is the vehicle on at the time? are the test tones recorded at 0db? is your wiring capable of that amount of current? are all the connections secure? can chuck norris really cure cancer with his tears?
