Help with new sub box *BIG PICS*

Vas not enough? Vas is what it is, it's one of the T/S parameters of the sub. It is one of the things that dictates the optimum volume of the box (Vb) but it is not the volume of the box, nor is it adjustable.
Yes, please elaborate on this, "Vas is not enough"..................

If each sub is in it's own chamber with the right air space than you don't need any polyfill. I did the same thing with my HT sub. Sounded bad. Did research on it and realize I didn't need polyfill with the right setup. I didn't realize that adding polyfill to a box made the sub work like it was in a bigger box. Took it all out and I was blow away as to how much better it sounded. Better in every way.

Ok, cool bro thanks for the 411. I will try that for sure!!

And you double checked to make sure they were in phase?
I agree, You should take all the subs out and double and tripple check all your wiring. Even if there isn't enough space under your subs, it shouldn't be sounding like 2 8s. You probably have 1 or 2 of the polarities reversed, which would sound like total power ***. 99% of the time if I intall a system and it just sounds like total garbage, its becaue on of the polarities is reversed on the subs and the subs just cancel eachother out.

I wish it was the wiring, i triple checked it before i finished the install but ya never know. When i take the polyfill out i will check the wiring again. How much space should i leave for the subs to move? 2 more inches,3? Ayways, thanks for the help guys!

I would say leave atleast 4". That is what they suggest always for the distance to leave in front of a port so I would think that would be the sames spacing that you would want to leave in front of the sub itself.

Hopefully it sounds better

Hey,

Just want to say thanks to everyone who posted. I changed the amount of space in between the subs and the floor to about 41/2 inches and took out ALL of the polyfill. WOW what a difference!!!! This system hits harder than any I have ever had. I have never been metered, but I have to find out what it hits. Got to be the upper 140’s.

too bad u cant invert the subs, would give thema lot more room. maybe they meant 1 cube after displacement? also ..... always leave room behind the magnet in a box rather than sides.

if you have ever inverted s sub and listened to it, then covered the magnet hole and listened, theres a noticable of difference. nice box building .... but i dont think you should have made it that shape/size :-\

I agree with the taking the poly fill out. It does trick the sub into thinking there is more VAC than is really there. On more thing and this you may have already checked. Check to make sure they are all in phase. You will be suprised (if you have done this before) how out of phase subs can sound muffled. Trash the poly and hook each sub up one at a time and make sure about the phase problem.

As for the board on top that should only enhance the loading of the subs. Seeing you are getting (or want to get) the sound created by the sub in the box, you are front loading the sub and making it push harder (which is not always a bad thing) to hit the notes. This will produce a hard hitting bass if done right.

VAC=Ventilation and Air Conditioning?

To do it right takes a lot of experimentation and time. All it really ends up being is a half-assed bandpass unless you really know your stuff.
