Help with new S10L7s Box

I have just bought 2 S10L74s along with a Soundstream 1700D and I want to put them in my 2000 Rodeo so not knowing anything about building a box (other than 4 pieces of wood glued together) I went to a local stereo shop to have them give me a quote. The guy says $350 for a sealed enclosure that will take up half of my cargo area. Does $350 sound high for a basic box design that will fit snug with the back of the Rodeo? He also said something about an amp rack on the back side closest to my rear seats but I don't know what he means by that.

I was trying to figure out if I can build something smaller that will look better than some bigass box and is there a program that can be used to do it? other than autocad... Or do I just need to do it the old fasion way and measure everything out and get a carpenter friend to help me.

One more specific thing about box building is that I don't want what I put in the car to be easily taken out. so can i build part of the box in the car and screw it down to the body and then finish it while it is in the car?

straight from kicker. if you wanted, you could prolly tack two of those together with a single layer of MDF down the middle - but you will have to compensate for that.

id suggest subs facing up and port facing back. but thats just me. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

I like the ported box but it just takes up too much room and I don't want my whole cargo area gone for a box. I am finishing up a drawing that I will post to see what peeps think

This is my idea about what to build. I have a limited amount of space so I want something that is as small as possible. What are anyones thoughts on this design. I think the total cubic feet would be 1.052

In the drawning I put a 2inch top over the sub because I want it hidden. I could make it smaller to drop the cubic feet to below the 1ft^3 kicker recommends I just don't know how much the sub will move thats why i made it a 2 inch travel cushion.

I hope that someone will be able to give me insite into this design and actually hidding the sub inside of the box.

Oh and its all assuming that the depth would be 12 inches.

from what i have read here that should work just fine as long as the height is enough to get the internal volume to the recommended size.

people have said it doesnt really matter what the shape of the box is as long it has the correct volume.

hope that helps.

thanks for a little bit of affirmation on the shape.

Does anyone have any thoughts on drilling into the body of my car to hold a box down? Or is there a better way to keep it from being taken without difficulty?
