Hello all!
I just purchased a 1982 Mercedes 240d in stunning condition, and have been going over the whole thing and getting it up to daily driver status. Of course, a big part of getting that status is getting an acceptable stereo setup.
This car didn't have a factory wiring harness, so it took some digging, but after a few days work, I plugged the clip in this morning, and by all appearances, I have it wired correctly.
I have a pretty good component set and a bigger amp and 4x12in Jenson subs, but after cleaning the car well and putting more and more thought into it, I couldn't come up with a way to make some of this make sense, especially without butchering the original interior, which is in marvelous condition.
So, I put a Pioneer DEH 1300, 2 Kenwood 4inch 3way speakers under the dash, 2 6in planet audio speakers in the back shelf, and I have a US Amps Xterminator 1600.2 pushing two 10inch Jenson subs.
However, when I fired up the car today for the first time, I think I have it all right...ALMOST. The amp and the remote antenna didn't turn on/extend when I turned the key, so I thought I screwed up the install, but when I turned on the HU, the antenna extended and the amp turned on. However, when I put the first CD in to test it out, all for of the front speakers are working, and sound pretty good, in that I rewired them, as opposed to using the 30 year old factory wires. But, the subs are not doing anything. I don't think they are blown, although they haven't been in a car in 2 years, as I was pushing the four 12s in my last truck. The amp has power, and no amount of fiddling around has made even the slightest sound come out of the subs. Am I missing something?
