Help with my first system.

Doing yourself a little research wouldn't hurt....need anybody to tell you where to type in your debit card number too? Lol
I've done the research, I just wanted experienced advice and not some cookie cutter DIY internet guide to put subs in your car.

If I go with the two twelves with a peak of 700 @ 4 ohms , would this amp be adequate to power both subs? Kenwood KAC-9104D 1800W Max, Class D Monoblock Amplifier

700 for the pair, or for each speaker? It tells you the ratings for the ohm setup right under the amp......500watts rms x 1 at 4 ohms....

Edit: don't run at peak power....run the rms ratings

If I had an amp, that ran 1200w through one channel at 4 ohms into two 12" 4 ohm subs with an RMS of 500, I would be giving each of them 600w.

could I theoretically reduce the watts going through the channel to 1000?

That amp is fine...

Run your two 12's at 1ohm an that amp produces 1000x1 at 1 ohm.

If you don't know how to wire your subs to different ohms. Go to 12volt.com it shows you how. That site will also tell you how large your sub box volume is an how to large of a port to tune it as well

Never been a fan of those Kenwoods, they drastically lose power when wiring down. For example, you will see 500@4 for sure, but likely nowhere near 900 @ 2or 1...The 60a should give away that. Kenwood isnt a good enough product to produce power at lesser current draws (like those old Cadence a7s for example)...if you prefer to use sonic and you make a definite choice on the PG 12s, post it here and I'll find u a better amp on sonic

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_23874_MB+Quart+ONX1.1000D.html I would run this way before I would run that Kenwood

Never really used keenwood amps so didn't know that..
sometimes people over value the CEA rating..it only pertains to 4ohm power levels and does not account for THD...it is often useless, especially when looking to wire amps under 4ohm...I know about the Kenwood being weak at lower ohm loads on account of a clamp floating around one of these sites a while back

Buy the MBQ that I linked...20$ more and a VASTLY better product....even if you want to save money, get the CRunch Ground Pounder 2k off of sonic...thats a little less then the MBQ and is also better then the Boss

Get the MBQ, you wont be disappointed.
would that sufficiently power 2 12 subs at 500rms? if it's only 475 watts, i know running it 25w below isn't a big deal at all, but what I am wondering is if it's 475w per sub, so if i hooked two up to the same amp, if they would only be getting 237 a piece.

Sorry for the dumb questions, I'm just trying to understand all the numbers x.x
