Help with my first system.

I'm guessing your looking for subs in the $75-100 range.

I like this subwoofer for the money; Phoenix Gold RSd12D - 12" Car Subwoofer - Sonic Electronix

I prefer 12" woofers over 15/10's. I'd say buy 1/2 and make yourself a ported box.

I think what your asking is if a 15" will put out the same spl as 2 12"s and the answer is no. Two 12"s will be louder.

Simply; If your looking for output = ported. Sound Quality/Tight Accurate Bass = Sealed. You'll be able to feel a 12" sealed shaking the car easily at 500 rms and if you want tight accurate bass like you mentioned, sealed boxes are better as far as that goes.

I would prefer to save the 100 dollars, If I port the box, I think I'll be happy, it will save me money on an amp.

I can get a JL Audio 15" Sub, an amp to push it , and a wiring kit for $365.

I guess my real question here was 1 15" or 2 12"s but I guess my money restrictions answered my own questions.

Well also you need to think about sound quality you said you want it to play bass but mid bass as well.

But 15's play a lower with not a lot of mid range while 12's will. And they will give you a lot more punch at the same time...

15's are mainly just for spl not sq

Should I consider 2 12's in a sealed box? It would seem that it would be louder and more accurate, and if the sub is cheap it could conceivably be cheaper than a single 15". What would I be looking at in terms of an amp if i chose to use those subs you linked to?

i understand sealed isn't as loud, i guess i should ask how much less accurate ported is compared to sealed.
Depends what you play, if something has a really fast beat ported may be a little late while sealed if set up right shouldn't be. Ex. Rock.

You have to figure out whether you want the sealed or ported box. We told you the pros and cons. I myself would go with 1/2 12"s in your situation. If you go w/ 2, your looking at an amp that pushes 1000rms at 1 ohm.

Such as; http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_25480_Crunch+P1+2000.1.html made my maxxsonics. You usually can find amps 25% off ebay.

With a 15 it's much less accurate. with 12s you can still get a ported box to play close to a sealed depending on how it's tuned.

Don't get a 15.....it's not what your looking for.

I listen to rap, so most of my bass is in long drawn out notes, occasionally a few kicks in rapid succession, so I guess I won't suffer as much of a loss in accuracy as I thought.

So, pushing two of those 12" subs you linked two, what specs would I need on an amp?

missed your second post, is that 1000w at 1 ohm for the sealed, because I've sucessfully been swayed to ported

sorry for being such a dumb ***, I just want to make sure I do this right. :p

Eh, not enough for me. The output of a ported box outweighs the SQ of a sealed box.
If you need a box design for whatever you decide on, lmk.
When I start ordering parts, I'll talk to you, I'd really appreciate the help with the box design.
