Help with my CD8455

So i got my CD8455 in today and so far my alpine cda-105 sounds better :/, granted i havnt figured out much on the deck yet but still.

Issues ive noticed so far:

1. The volume is really odd, sound isnt even audible at levels 0-15 on CD and not till like 30 on aux.

2. My front stage isnt getting nearly as loud as it was on my alpine, although my sub still sounds good. Mids seem muggy and my highs are very quiet and scratchy

3. Was in aux mode and had the jack in my phone on Pandora, was listening at a low level and the highs had crackles. Sounds pretty muddy and just all around funkyish

4. On a CD it sounds better then aux, but still an all around funky sound from my mids and highs. Highs are much quieter then they need to be

Only things ive done since it was reset was set HPF for 100, set aux sensitivity to high, and set true bass to the highs. Still havnt even figured out how to get the EQ up.

Also if you push the volume knob twice theres something you can turn up to 15 or 20 i turned all the way up, was increasing the volume. Not sure what it was

All my gains are set to 8V, except for my fronts are a lil higher. Being because they are the only set needing full rms, the rears only need 50-60 of 85rms. And my sub only needs 8-900 of 1200wrms so i figured just dont turn to max and ill hear when my fronts dont want anymore.

On my alpine my fronts were getting louder then i could stand before rms even, sounded pretty decent deff a good bit cleaner then what im hearing now. So im really confused, this is suppose to be a high end deck, what gives?

Anyone have this or similar deck got a few pointers for tuning? I know it has a ton of features that could really change the sound. Just gotta get my fronts and mids outa crap town

Take the unit into pro mode. This will give you more tuning flexibility with the EQ, time alignment, as well as the x-over. The EQ will have 7 bands for the front & rear independent of each other. Time alignment will not be in the simplified mode, meaning you can adjust all channels independently. The x-over will allow you to pick what ever frequency & slope you want for the front, rear, and the sub.

As for the truebass setting in simplified mode, I played with them but never liked them. It would muddy up the sound & exaggerate certain frequencies.

Ok well im about to go play with it for 20-30min, ill turn the truebass off and flip into pro mode. See if i cant get it sounding cleaner. Any ideas about why i have to turn the volume so high to even hear anything??? Even in CD mode

Alpine's & Eclipse's volume settings are different. With Alpine the volume settings are from 1-35. With Eclipse they are from 1-80. This only means that the volume settings take a few more clicks on the eclipse unit.

Exactly... Basically 1 click on the alpine is equal to 2 clicks on the Eclipse. I've heard several people say they need to turn it up to 50 or 60 before they get any good sound out of it.

yea it gets going around that volume, but at this point kinda of wishing i went with the new pioneer instead >.> i cant charge my phone or ipod anymore

The CD8455 is a very nice unit. Don't give up on it yet. I still have one & wil not be getting rid of it, that's how much I like it. I also have a CD7000. Keeping that as well, but I like the CD8455 more.

Try turning the loudness off, just push down the volume button for a second or two.

Well i just played with it but im not satisfied. Plus i cant get it to eject my CD at all -.-
I had problems with my 8445 not ejecting. It was due to the stereo kit blocking the HU's full ejection path. Test and see if the unit will eject while outside of the installation. I ended up having to just removing the trim ring everytime i want to change CDs.

As for charging you iPhone, you will the Eclipse IPC-106. This is their iPod control module. If you have a newer iPhone, you are also going to need the KCX-422TR from alpine. It converts the 12v signal down to 5v's & allows your phone to be charged. The reason I said alpine is because I only know of one other one made by sosche. That is a total piece of garbage. It would become disconnected, & introduced noise into the system. I bought my last alpine one from eBay for $20. It has clips to hold it in place & no noise issues.

You can also just get an adapter that's wired to power & will pass the signal via the stereo's auxillary input.

i dont think loudness was on, it was the truebass. But its off now and i have access to the 7band EQ. Also turned the aux sensitivity down to mid or mid-low and alot of the crackling is gone. SOunds much better but not quite there. My sub is lacking alot, i turned the gain up to maybe 5-6V and ima try that out for a bit

Ill try that trick for the cd, it dosnt stay down like the manual says. It flips down for 3-5seconds then shuts again

EDIT: how do i get it into pro mode???

o.0 it doesn't charge through your USB? Buyer's remorse is just ****** haha, so get some tips on it quick. You must have something set-up wrong to have the scratchy highs and muddy mids.
Its getting cleaner but like i said still not quite there. But its dosnt have a usb, the aux is an rca to 3.5mm cord
