Help With Imaging/Tweeter Placement

I need help with tweeter placement in my 81 catalina (similar to the chevy caprices for those who arent familiar with older pontiacs) Ive drawn a diagram thing showing the placement and angle of my tweeters (speakers are PG - RSD5s) or something like that. 5.25 components running on a pioneer 4000UB head unit. Anyway i was wondering should i surface mount the tweets down into the front and rear decks so theyre pointing the same direction as the speakers for sound quality or what? What are you guys doing with yours? Ive heard that i should ditch the rear set of tweets and just have one set as well from some people, opinions?

Very artistic

Go buy some velcro and play with different temporary mounting locations/angles and see what sounds best. Unfortunately, there is no one answer to your question as every car (acoustically) is different. Because you lack the processing you will want to keep the tweets relatively close to the mids (as this will help with time alignment). Also, playing with the phase of each driver, once you have settled on locations, will help get the staging as best you can.

I don't find the need for rear fill in my setup, but I imagine with enough power and a good, solid install one set, up front, should be fine. Although, I have a coupe, so I am not sure how much space one set up front is going to fill. I will say two component sets are not necessary. If anything, sell them both and get a better set and buy some inexpensive rear fill.

EDIT - Just noticed you are running these of the deck... not good. Even a small, cheap (50x4) amplifier will help.

i plan on keeping both sets because my car is huge pretty much. Ive tried just one set and people in the back complain about not hearing anything but bass. I do plan on amping them though. i work at best buy and can get a nice infinity 4ch so i think im gonna amp them with that. its like 75wrms # 4 so thatll be good.

hahaha what james said.

people in my back seat have no problem hearing my front stage even with the sub inches from their head (hatchback) its like being at a concert lol

but if you insist on having rear fill, fire the tweets back at the passengers. from somewhere on the door close to the front seats. and have the mids down in the door if possible. would help getting in the way of the front stage somewhat atleast.

I got rid of my rear stage and got an amp for my front stage (Phoenix gold rsd 5 comps) and now my question is, should i move my tweets from the a-pillar and mount them in the dash with the woofers, because in theory if the tweets are aimed directly at me, and the woofers have to reflect the sine waves off the windshield before they get to me, then the tweeters sound would be getting to me first. So id need to either move them into the dash (probably wouldnt be good for sq) or either delay them a little (reverse phase maybe? ive heard that helps) What you guys think? Im gonna get pics and post them here shortly.

It is a box, the pic shows my dash on the trunk of the 81, the car in the back is a 68 catalina. Im working on that one too though, i just put in a new head unit and the old one was weird as hell. had a switched 12v wire, and one speaker wire coming from it and thats it. Weird shit
