Help with gain on Orion 2500d.

I have it wired to 1 ohm. Ya im just wondering why i have to crank the gain a little over 3/4 to get the output to even start moving the sub.......figured i would barely have to touch the gain since it has 2500 watts and im only running a 15" xxx.

maybe its the HU? not strong enuff preouts maybe 2 the amp.

Theres nothing wrong with the amp really.....im just wondering why i have to crank the gain almost all the way up to start getting the output out of it.....also in the summer when i run it pretty hard for a while it gets prettty **** hot....and only thing that seems like would be causing this is my alternator not putting out enough amps to power the amp? /shrug

The amp runs relatively hot, thats just how it is. Low voltage will of course make the problem worse... but its nothing to be scared of.
